Program Intern Job Description

EFA is looking for a Program Intern to assist EFA in organizing the annual EcoFarm Conference. The ideal candidate will be able to juggle multiple projects at once and to meet high standards of accuracy and timeliness. EcoFarm is the oldest and largest agricultural event in the West, and this position will have a hand in many aspects of the conference planning. The ideal candidate will have superb computer skills in a Mac environment, but also very proficient in Microsoft Office. Database experience and IT knowledge a plus.

The position will be involved in organizing and helping to realize various projects for this year’s conference, including but not limited to: creating and entering information into databases, assisting with logistics on-site, and other special project support for the conference.

This is not a paid position. Hours are flexible, but preference will be given to someone who can commit to 10-18 hours per week, and who is able to adjust their hours according to the need to meet EFA deadlines. Work would take place in EFA office with potential to work off-site as appropriate.

Required duties:

Work with EFA staff to plan, promote and administer the EcoFarm Conference programs, including:

· Assisting in coordination of the EcoFarm Fellowship and Scholarship Programs

· Supporting the Program Coordinator in organizing speakers, workshops and events

· Working with the Communications Coordinator in editing documents for online and print media

· Helping EFA staff in management of all necessary details of the conference production schedule

Qualifications:

· Self-starter with demonstrated follow-through

· Detail-oriented, especially with multiple streams of data

· Excellent communication skills

· Able to take direction from multiple staff members

· Produce high quality work in a deadline-driven environment

· Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel

The ideal candidate will also:

· Attend the annual Hoes Down Harvest Festival on October 4-5 at Full Belly Farm in Guinda, CA.

· Attend and assist staff at the 35th annual EcoFarm Conference, from January 21-24, 2015 at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA.

· Have an interest in and commitment to EFA’s mission in ecological agriculture.

Communications Intern Job Description

EcoFarm is the oldest and largest agricultural event in the West, and this position will have a hand in the promotional aspects of the conference. The ideal candidate will have superb computer skills in a Mac environment.

 

The position will be involved in organizing and helping to realize various communications projects for this year’s conference.

This is not a paid position. Hours are flexible, but preference will be given to someone who can commit to 10-15 hours per week, and who is able to adjust their hours according to the need to meet EFA deadlines. Work would take place in EFA office with potential to work off-site as appropriate.

Required duties:

Work with EFA staff to plan and promote the 35th annual EcoFarm Conference, including:

• Relationship building with our online community by maintaining and creating creative feedback and viral loops through Facebook and Twitter and other accounts.

• Support creation of content for a new EFA website as well as monthly e-newsletters and conference announcements.

• Maintain media and public relations by communicating with bloggers and reporters and maintain systems for tracking and reporting media placement and contacts.

• Contribute design ideas for new organizational display to bring to EcoFarm Conference and other events.

• Set up creative promotion and organization for selling merchandise at EcoFarm Conference.

• Develop signage for EcoFarm Conference events and workshops.

• Assist in development of EcoFarm Membership program.

Qualifications:

• Excellent written, verbal and visual presentation skills; including the ability to manage and present information effectively in a variety of media formats.

• Familiarity of online media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogs, and other web applications.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel. Experience preferred in Website platforms: Drupal, WordPress, HTML/CSS; Adobe Creative Suite/Photoshop/InDesign; Database software/CiviCRM

• Initiative, creativity, high personal standards for the quality and timeliness of work-products, a proactive problem-solver, and collaborative team player.

• Professional and effective under the pressure of production details and deadlines.

The ideal candidate will also:

• Attend the annual Hoes Down Harvest Festival on October 4-5 at Full Belly Farm in Guinda, CA.

• Attend and conduct “live” social media along with other support tasks at the 35th annual EcoFarm Conference, from January 21-24, 2015 at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA.

• Have an interest in ecological agriculture and safe and just food systems.
